cd review: Music For Moderns

Received my copy yesterday, listened to it on the way to a gig...........first impression, sonically this cd sounds amazing, the drums very clean and pronounced, you can even hear the sound of the reed on the sax during the opening tune Plan 9.

Standout tracks; hard to chose, their all great.
So far though, Plan9, Manic Tropical Depression [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img] (the groove starts with a New Arlins type greasy groove, then goes into a swing ride pattern keeping the opening groove vibe alive on the cross stic, then changing to hat and snare all the while a shaker part playing on top, very nice musical solo too) , Wouldn't You, Reason To Believe (very kewl tune, starts with a loop and Erskoman then playing on top if it), GREAT brush work on both Sweet and Loveely and Mr Jones to You.

Track 11, Communal Solitaire, another fav.

All in all, great cd...........the first Lounge Art Ensemble is a good listen too, erskoman played the entire cd with a Jordan cocktail kit.

anyway, go get this cd and do your ears good!

I picked it up at Peter's gig in Santa Monica last Sunday and I've been listening to it ever since. I love this cd. Really great music all around and tasty playing by everyone.

We're very happy here at Fuzzy Music with the way the album turned out, and really glad that you both dig it, too. (To paraphrase the old jazz saying/joke: "We're dig!")

Man!! With the musical superpowers that be, it's amazing how 3 pieces can sound SO COLORFULL and full of MUSIC!!

We've been playing it here at the shop now for a week or so, and I get all kinds of people asking me, "who is this"?? So I've been sending them to Tower Records here in Northridge. Not sure where else to send them.

I would highly recommend this CD to anyone that loves Jazz and it's contemporary counterparts.

Pete... along with DSOP, it was great finally getting to see you play. We can only strive to be as musical as you are on the drums. Freddy told me something about you writing something for when the Olympics were in L.A.!!?? Is that true??

Thanks! Please send them to fuzzymusic.com ... the CD should be available at Tower Records stores, 'though I'm not certain that it has reached all of the Tower outlets (running an independent label has its challenges!).

The music I wrote, along with Vince Mendoza, was for the 1994 World Cup Final game which was played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena ... did a "lip synch" for TV, and got clipped in the head by one of the camera jib arms during a sweeping shot ? my 5 seconds of world-wide fame! ? [img]eek.gif[/img]

actually, the entire thing is a very funny story, I'll look forward to telling you all about it over a couple of beers one of these days...
